The Diver
Restaurant Experience
The Diver – Restaurant Experience was a social experiment about strangers who get confronted with an unusual dinner experience.
We decided to take up the normally secretive world of a pop-up restaurant and turn it into an open platform for discussion dealing with unused resources in new contexts. Staged in an artificial and supposed exclusive ambience, our guests were confronted with fact that their food was declared as “food waste” after they had enjoyed their vegetarian 4-course menu. The subsequent discussion should turn the expectation of an extravagant evening upside down and problematise the wastage of our sustenance. The final value of this event thus the payment of the catering was ceded to our guests.
In the middle of 2012 we performed our pop-up restaurant in an unused factory building in Berlin Neukölln for the first time. After further events in an ancient Soviet broadcasting centre in Grünau (Berlin) we collaborated with the Renaissance Hotel in Karlsruhe. On the occasion of the city’s 300th birthday, we organized an informative event to promote the potential of “food waste“ as social catalyst for more sustainable consumer behaviour.
